Tone Kolose has been a principal for 14 years at two schools in Auckland. He was first appointed principal just six years into his teaching career.

You will often find Tone in the classroom as he prides himself on continuing to build relationships with the students, their parents and the community.

During conversations with students earlier this year he discovered many of them had never been outside of their communities. They had not been on a motorway, or swam in the beach, or visited a zoo. The revelation stunned Tone who assumed every child had had those experiences.

Now he is on a mission to make sure his students experience those things they’ve only read about or watched on television. He is making sure they know “there is life beyond the corner dairy”.
