Ranee Prasad is in her fourth year as a teacher and is teaching at the same school in Auckland where she was a student. She is already the Assistant Head of Mathematics at Papatoetoe High School and Ranee says she especially owes her success to her own inspirational statistics teacher who was the former Head of Mathematics at the same high school – Gavin Hunter.

It was Gavin’s positive influence on her as a student and his innovative teaching style that inspired Ranee to become a teacher herself. He was also the catalyst to her applying for her current role. Although Gavin is now living overseas, the pair keep in contact and he still plays an active role in mentoring her. Ranee hopes to pay it forward by inspiring others to become teachers, as Gavin has done for her.
